On Tuesday, 29 March, fourteen people came out to BongoHive for our Food Blogging meetup. Our regular attendees did not disappoint and it was inspiring to welcome first-timers including Chila whose favourite food is bread and Vinni who loves peanut butter straight from the jar every morning.
The discussion took sharp twists and turns much like white-water rafting on the Zambezi. Food is very close to us.
The elephant in the room was that we could not (off the top of our heads) think of a single blogger in Zambia whose niche was food. Of course we do have food bloggers but the names don’t simply roll off one’s tongue as they do with say … fashion bloggers 😉 .
We decided to ask the question “why” …
… and got some honest and unexpected answers:
You can catch up with the rest of the meetup highlights on Twitter using the hashtag #WPLsk.
By the end of the meetup, there was enough motivation to “just start” a food blog. To that end, we have two blogging challenges for you to complete between now and the end of April:
- Attend a cooking class at Mange-tout and blog about your experience
- Get in touch with Vinni to become a contributor on a food blog he’s starting
Here are some food sites you can visit for inspiration:
We’d love to hear your favourite ones too. Feel free to add them in the comments.
